CIC Institutes
CIC institutes are where the best insurance agents and practitioners learn the tools of their trade. The CIC Program provides an excellent continuing education opportunity; any eligible individual may attend classes without taking the examinations or working toward the designation. Presentations are custom-tailored to reflect the laws and changes in policies in the state in which the institute is held. 

The institutes are:

  • Ruble Graduate Seminar*
* To attend a Ruble you must be a dues paid member of CISR, CIC, CRM or CSRM to attend a Ruble Graduate Seminar. 

2 day Format:
7:30 AM Registration
8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Wed
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Thurs

16 Minnesota CE Credits (for all other states go to
$465.00 for CIC Institues
$450.00 for Ruble Graduate Seminars

Cancellation Policy: Full refund or transfer will be granted if request is received in writing within 7 days prior to the seminar.  Requests received after that date will incur a $75.00 fee.    No refund/transfer will be granted for no shows.

Eligibility and Identification Requirements
To register for and attend a CIC institute, you must be a licensed agent, broker, or solicitor; or have at least two years of full-time experience as a practitioner in insurance or risk management; or have served for at least two years as a full-time insurance faculty member at an accredited college or university. All participants must present photo identification to the on-site registrar at in-person classroom CIC Institutes.

CISR Live Webinars

These live webinars function just like a virtual classroom.  

You will:

  • See the instructor in real time 
  • See speaker presentations
  • Participate in Q&A sessions
  • Be in class all day with regular breaks and an hour for lunch
  • Participate from the comfort and convenience of your home or office

Registration is required. We will send you a confirmation email that includes course materials and a link to view the webinar with technical specs and support line. You can print the course materials or view them on your computer, laptop, or tablet.

How do I access a CIC Live Webinar?

Registration is required for webinars. After you register, Big I MN will send you a confirmation email that includes course materials and a live link to the webinar. You can print the course materials or view them from your computer, laptop, or tablet.

What is the course agenda? Random attendance checks occur each hour of the presentation.

What technology do I need to take a webinar?

  • A desktop computer, laptop, or tablet
  • Internet connection
  • Speakers or audio on your device
    • There is not a phone connection for these webinars; audio streams through the computer

Do I need to attend the entire webinar?

To earn continuing education credits and/or designation update credits, you must be in FULL ATTENDANCE of the webinar.  Random attendance checks occur each hour of the presentationYou must reply to all attendance polls to earn the 16 credits, there is NO partial credit.

Registration must be completed at least 40 days prior to the date of the ruble to get state approval in an additional state.  Please contact National Alliance or the Big I MN for CE approval for other states.

PROfile displays all of your National Alliance professional education information including: Alliance member #, when your next update is due, membership dues status, CE certificate, course history, new program offerings, contact and logon information, and suggested reading materials. Please note that it will take 4-6 weeks for your attendance to be reflected on your PROfile.

Do I need to take an exam?

If you are attending the CIC Institute to earn the CIC designation, you must take and pass the exam.

If you are attending the CIC Institute only for CE credit or for your CIC designation annual update credit, you DO NOT need to take the exam. Your attendance is validated by the attendance polls, and an exam is not required.

You do not need to take the exam for the Ruble Graduate Seminar

How do I take the CIC exam?

Following the CIC Institute, your exam will be available on your My Profile Page through the National Alliance website.  The exam window is 96 hours, starting the Monday at 12:01am to Thursday at 11:59pm following the close of the course.  You can complete the exam at anytime during those 96 hours.   Once you open the link and start the exam you have to finish it.

Do I need a proctor for the exam?

Yes, the exam must be proctored, meaning someone must see you take the test and confirm that you did not use any course materials or notes to take the test.   All exam-takers will need a disinterested third-party to proctor them.  More information can be found at .

When do I get my results?

Your exam results will be available in 4-6 weeks after you complete the test on your myprofile page through The National Alliance.  You login to your myprofile page
